Please create an issue in the issue tracker( https://hibernate.atlassian.net ) with a test case( hibernate-test-case-templates/JPAUnitTestCase.java at main · hibernate/hibernate-test-case-templates · GitHub ) that reproduces the issue. In the meantime, try using count(*) instead.
